Straight In Like That
Dare not bullshit-myself and 'say' pray for Brendon O. + graph. for m'bud, to do. Contenders for Top Twenty, '20, x
MizOrMac (Harlem Spartans) Recalled To Jail

Fasting every-which-way, inc. net time. Sought to look for contenders last night. Checked a few of the NME picks. Sense impatience and laziness. Some alright but we can't keep/on/carry/on. Drill is a grand confession, charge-up, social commentary, tribe-talk, and UK-led, world-wide new sound. Like a 20's friend says, it may rep., 10% listening-time but that doesn't reflect its importance. The first, since Jungle, or punk to funk, turn into the 80s.
All-s to say, not played a sausage today. M'chart is all the usual genre-fixed charts, in one. One exclusion: Bethel. Considering evaluating/comparing/clashing/all that jazz... but would be concerned/seen as, token-ism, or bias/because.
What to watch? Robert Christgau (NYC' Village Voice, Music Ed.) took his fellow hipsters to task around 1980. The issue? Making choices for songs of the year based on what others will read into it. I.e. A trendy, well-respected... and so on, choice. In 1980 the issue was uncertainty after Punk.
Today, read my lips; Race, Race, Men, White one's, and sexual orientation/labels.
Will the honest assessment and the B&W issue, appear to be at play?
For me, it works two ways: the times and top music is speaking from it? To not include, in judgements, is... well, ain't me babe. Not that songs connect with C_19 etc., in lyric or message, it's (my) perceived feeling it's in context. Comes as standard in rap-based music. Or, could-be, projection, and no more present and feeling what's goin' down? Or, how about putting in a Van or Ian?
V and A are the totality of ROCK/POP/RnB/Hip-Hop/jazz... in opposition. Easy to self-crit., any fussing there? Stone Roses, and Ian (Brown), thereon, banging out the indie-cred. Would have said all the years: The one UK indie-rock band that carried the weight. S. Roses. Not included in playlists, (not time to explain, why.). Funny that? Who stood up? The best of Indie (roots and culture, kind).
So, not "amen" -ing? All would concede it's arguable, the statement I made.
Van Morrison?
Made statements such as; Bob Marley is the most recognised artist world-wide in thirty years. The most popular artist, as for vinyl in Jamaica? Jim Reeves.
The most important and greatest western religious piece of music? St Mathews Passion.
How about Singer-Songwriters?
The US have Dylan, Young,... pick a name? You'll need to add an Irishman in the pack. If Bob is the w.w. most-recognised?
Who, alive is that well-appreciated and respected in Rock, acoustic roots, and like? Considered a 'soul singer', a whitey? Early 70s until today, the man is a Dylan, a...? Er... who? Else?
HISTORY is, the making of humanity.
History is being Stalin/Stasi-Socialized: goin'... goin'... to Slavery.
Quick re-cap: When Punk hit, most of the rock records, went into the charity stores. If punk and following didn't do it, dance/rave... So? The list who translated into the 'new day': Van, would be about-the-last y'chucked. By the mid-80s with soul/black music/white/black music, how might Van fit/rate/do? Soul and Blues-based, music?
In post-punk I was too stupid/thought-busy, to go on the coach trip to see him. See? The reason I knowz it and unhelpful-prejudice?
I blows'd it enough-times. Van has remained respectable since dot. Fair to say, excelled in maintaining quality, often sheer magic, in music.
Gotta get off. Will attempt a re-look at 2020 sound. Not visions. The audio, or if video/pic. off. Not that the vids. aren't important but that isn't in the MJ 20/20 equation
Statement: Van is the best, or thereabouts, Ian Brown, same-goes. Lord Jonathan Sumption, The Best Of British.
I'd be encouraged. Plus:
The UK is the Dancehall, with its bros./sis. in JA.
Top Twenty, these ends, on Boxing Day.
