Flash my 'queer' credentials, with respect. Working in the West Village in 1983-4. Gay, and good company.
The ease and openness of homosexuality in San Fran., and NY's West Village, made for the widest gamut of types. All see the leather-clad, pumped up, 'butch', or what 'ave ya, image.
Not the predominant crowd. No, way. It's more like living in the UK and everyone's gay, but some look or come across, so. That few, among many.
In NY, one small area: Broadway and west, Bowery to 14th.
No one needed to prey on another. Not the manners or way in those days. There was a relaxed ease, in disclosing, or asking about, specific, personal, sexuality.
Apart from two job interviews and an upfront standard-offer, no one hassled me... for get togethers.
Oh, knocked off my bike when messengering, once. In the mangled bike and scrapes, a public street-phone ring. Wouldn't as a rule, but answered. A viewer of my prang, high in the overlooking flats, offering me cocaine and 'breakfast'?
Two job interview, propositions:
Old People's Home, San Francisco? Invitation to join the others, and seemed, most of the male staff for special weekends by some river-spot.
And Steve; at 8th Street Playhouse (West Village), again, something all the boys were asked? One hundred dollars if he 'sucked...' etc,. well, only, that, and once.
Got the jobs without taking the benefits(?) and sums up NYC for the year or two, before HIV/Aids, goes public?
Wasn't a 'meat market,' a gaggle of grabbing gays. Went to homes, was safe. Went about, and met good manners, all the way.
The New York Times, September 1984. The Magazine turned over to the C-19-like, threat and frenzy.
Went 'home' to the UK/ left my home in NYC, in 1985. Caught the first three months. Equivalent to March/April 2020.

Not the elderly, anyone..., who got certain, flu-type symptoms, and testing positive for HIV?
Fast-track, isolation, medication/radio/chemo..
By the end of 1984, on the way to 8000 in the US, had tested positive, with up to half dying.
Unlike C-19, questions were raised at the time, that the numbers may have been higher?
Yet, all this rested on what's being tested for; accuracy, reliability, levels, and if, what shows up is a significant cause of the severe conditions, and outcomes?
Like C-19.
On the 'Aids Gold Rush'?
Before I awoke, (circa., 2010.), read an exposé of HIV/Aids strategy and the billions it raised. All fuelled on the, 'not-a-gay' threat, but always, was. Never showed, but for Africa, and beyond?
How come?

The symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis, medication-regime... on the train, all stations, to...?
I would argue the 1984' Gay NY'er, was healthier and hygiene-conscious, and a whole lot less-vulnerable so disease-resistant, than today.
Soon, after I 'awoke' and was a Joe Rogan show with Dr. Peter Duesberg . Had me think again?
The strongest arguments attempting to counter the 'HIV Hoax' claims, come at the end, from Bryan, and Joe.
The questions around the speed of the deterioration and fatalities, pertains to NY, '84 and '85.
